Fruit of the Vine. Salton Sea.

FRUIT OF THE VINE “Salton Sea” from Six Stair on Vimeo.

The Salton Sea is a huge inland “sea” in Southern California and one of the biggest man made disasters in the U.S. Now the area is a ghost town and all thats left are a few desert creedlers and some empty pools—- and lots of flies and dead fish.

Fruit of the Vine was the first film we made together back in 1999. We had no idea what were doing- we bought a few super 8 cameras for under $50 and went on the road for 2 months shooting film at as many pools as possible not knowing if the cameras worked or if we were using the right film. By the time we were done we skated more than 70 pools and had the road trip of a lifetime and ever more incredible all the film came out.

Few things make me feel as good as The Winking Circle does.

Where is Benny Zenga these days? Come to Peterborough, bring movies (and a skateboard).

Poor Life Decisions. Iceland.

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Sometimes we make poor life decisions. Take this one for example: One day, Nathan Colquhoun messages me and says something to the effect of: ‘Hey, a bunch of us bought really inexpensive tickets to Iceland. We also rented a cottage nestled at the base of a dormant volcano . . . would you and your Lady Friend like to come along?”

Ten or so days in mid-October and we were way too busy at the Studio to pull it off.

Looking back, or more appropriately, looking at Nathan’s Iceland footage, it was a poor decision. When someone says “Hey, would you like to go to Iceland”. Say yes.

Lesson learned.

Music by Rah Rah – Tentacles
Footage by Nathan Colquhoun and Stephanie Oullette
Everything was shot on 5d Mark II with 17-40mm or 35mm
